Jean Hoerni was born in Geneva, Switzerland on September 26, 1924.
He received his PhD in Physics, in 1950 from the University of Geneva, Switzerland. He then got another PhD in Physics from Cambridge University in England in 1952. He then came to the United States as a Post Doctoral Research Fellow in Chemistry. Jean invented the Planar Process, which is is a manufacturing process used in the semiconductor industry to build individual components of a transistor, and in turn, connect those transistors together. It was basically a computer chip that could have more information stored into it. He had a very successful life, and he made a big impact on the world today.
